The Iridescent Isle is a musical response to the landscape that lies beyond the windows of McCaig's Tower, Oban, Scotland. Light dances across the surface of the water, illuminating the surrounding islands. In the opening of the piece, glimmering figures punctuate a free watery landscape of modal harmony. The Isle is majestic, yet mysterious. The second section of the trio features a playful presentation of the opening ideas, where melodic lines are intertwined with striking rhythmic patterns. The Isle comes to life; its true nature revealed.
The Iridescent Isle was commissioned by 'The Olive Collective', a talented trio consisting of members Ella Pearson (Cor Anglais), Megan Rushbrook (Piano) and Alex Carey (Violoncello).
