Ella Roberts is a Composer and Sound Designer based in Cardiff.
Ella graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with First Class Honours, and was awarded the Beryl Weale Prize for Composition, the RWCMD Composition Prize, and the Midori Matsui Memorial Prize. Ella composes for Concert, Film and Theatre. Her recent projects include: Creating her debut theatre show 'Elegantly Destroy'; Scoring Short Film 'Overs' (BBC2 Wales); Scoring Playwright Simon Stephens' debut Screenplay 'LOVE'; Composing for the European Premier of play 'Everybody' by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Phillip Breen; Sound Designing for Yasmin Joseph's 'Half Full', in association with the Royal Court theatre, directed Milli Bhatia. Ella has been commissioned by the Cardiff Chamber Orchestra, workshopped compositions with London Sinfonietta and created installation sound art for Newport's 'Art on the Hill Festival'. Environmental sound and Landscape form a large part of her compositional practice. Ella collects field recordings in a variety of locations, both rural and urban, which provide inspiration for her music. In 2022, she launched her new educational resource, The Field Recording Project, an online sound map of the UK which anyone can explore and contribute to. In her role as Junior Developer at Audio Imperia, Ella works with the team and collaborates with professional musicians to create a range of cinematic virtual instruments. These bespoke composition tools have been used internationally by composers such as Lorne Balfe, Steve Jablonsky and David Newman.
