Elegantly Destroy is a multi-media show which explores the fragility of our planet. The show gains inspiration from Ralph Waldo Emerson’s (1803-1882) poem 'Water'. Ahead of its time, this poem explores humans’ interaction with the natural elements, warning us if ill-used these elements have a destructive potential. The show begins in a paradise, a space where humanity and nature co-exist in harmony. Slowly, human desires emerge, and a place of beauty is shattered. A captivating landscape of music, movement, and light charts this deterioration. I have collected field recordings from all over the UK to create the soundscape of the show. Every single sound that you hear has been made from environmental sounds or the human voice. As the world deteriorates, these components are distorted, yet the source materials remain the same. The sole use of the environment and the human voice is fitting; after all, only one can save the other.
