Morúadh is a three movement electronic work. The piece explores the legends surrounding the Irish Morúadh (Merrows/Mermaids). These creatures were said possess a song so enchanting that they could lure sailors to their deaths. The piece was inspired by my visit to Cleggan Harbour in the Connemara National Park, Ireland. All the sounds created in this piece have been derived from the human voice.
The text used is taken from the Irish and English translation of 'Captain O'Malley's song'.
Movement 1 sets the scene of the harbour, Movement 2 explores the mermaid's enchanting song and Movement 3 depicts the dark intentions of the Morúadh.
